Health care leaders participate in ACS Quality Forum in Sacramento, CA

A panel of regional health care experts discussed the state of health care in Northern California and discussed examples of state and national quality improvement initiatives that have resulted in higher standards, reduced costs, and better outcomes.

ACS hosts Inspiring Quality Forum in Utah

On October 3, a panel of regional health care experts discussed best practices for improving patient care and reducing costs during the ACS Surgical Health Care Quality Forum Mountain Region at the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City.

ACS Inspiring Quality Forum in South Carolina focuses on surgical checklists

The College hosted the ACS Surgical Health Care Quality Forum, South Carolina on March 28. The event was part of a series of Inspiring Quality programs aimed at infusing community participation into the national discussion on surgical quality improvement. Speakers at the forum, which was presented in partnership with Safe Surgery 2015 and the South Carolina Hospital Association, examined the successes of the Surgical Safety Checklist and best practices now used in all of the state’s operating rooms.

New book recounts lessons learned through Inspiring Quality forums

The ACS released a limited-edition book, ACS Inspiring Quality Tour: Lessons Learned in the Pursuit of Quality Surgical Health Care, on April 15, which summarizes the findings of an 18-month effort to expand a national dialogue about surgical quality and patient safety through a series of nationwide forums.

In his May column, Dr. Hoyt discusses a new ACS report titled Lessons Learned in the Pursuit of Quality Surgical Health Care, which highlights the key messages that the College’s leadership took home from their many stops on the Inspiring Quality tour.

ACS, Florida health care leaders discuss quality improvement, patient safety programs at Winter Park forum

The ACS joined the Florida Hospital Association and Florida Blue (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida) on January 23 in Jacksonville for the 12th Surgical Health Care Quality Forum. The event was part of an ACS-sponsored national tour that brings together hospitals, health plans, physicians, government, and other health care leaders to share best practices for improving patient care and achieving better outcomes.

College and American Cancer Society team up to present Atlanta IQ forum

The ACS and the American Cancer Society hosted the Surgical Health Care Quality Forum Georgia on December 12, 2012, the eleventh in a series of national discussions on how quality improvement efforts enhance surgical patient safety and reduce costs.

New York health care leaders review data-driven approach to quality surgical care

The ACS and New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York City, NY, hosted the 10th Inspiring Quality forum November 16, 2012. The forum, which highlighted programs such as the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program® (ACS NSQIP®), drew more than 160 attendees from nearly 40 hospitals, medical schools, and other health care organizations in the state—a record attendance for the Inspiring Quality tour.

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) launched its Inspiring Quality campaign in May 2011. Since then, these forums have been presented in cities across the nation and have enabled the ACS leadership to inform policymakers and the public of the College’s 100-year commitment to analyzing clinical data and using this knowledge to set standards that lead to better quality care.

ACS, Philadelphia health care leaders discuss physician-led quality improvement initiatives

The American College of Surgeon’s Surgical Health Care Quality Forum in Philadelphia, PA—the ninth stop on a national tour to drive discussions on effective quality improvement methods—focused on the importance of physician-led initiatives in achieving better outcomes, citing the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) as a leading model.

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) hosted more than 80 health care leaders at the ACS Surgical Health Care Quality Forum in Houston, TX, on September 10 to discuss how programs focused on surgical quality and education reduce patient complications and readmissions, resulting in lower costs and greater value. The forum was part of the ACS Inspiring Quality initiative, which seeks to drive a national discussion on critical elements required for successful quality improvement programs.
