ACS and CoC join Choosing Wisely Campaign to identify overused procedures

The College and the ACS Commission on Cancer have joined more than 30 leading medical specialty societies in phase III of the Choosing Wisely campaign initiated by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation. The campaign is a response to a 2012 report from the Institute of Medicine, Best Care at Lower Cost, which noted that up to 30 percent of health care spending is duplicative or unnecessary.

Safe harbors: Liability reform for patients and physicians

This article highlights the purpose and functions of safe harbors, as well the pros and cons of developing and implementing safe harbors in liability lawsuits. The results of demonstration projects centered on the use of clinical guidelines as safe harbors also are described.
