The following essay is the winner of the YFA Advocacy & Issues Workgroup essay contest. This year’s contest focused on how young surgeons are achieving their personal best working within organized medicine by advocating to state and federal government officials for the safety and well-being of the surgical patient and/or for the surgeon.
