The ACS federal lobbying team successfully accomplished multiple legislative wins in 2016 covering a range of topics including the Cancer Moonshot initiative, opioid research and treatment funding, and issues related to health information technology interoperability.
The following essay is the winner of the YFA Advocacy & Issues Workgroup essay contest. This year’s contest focused on how young surgeons are achieving their personal best working within organized medicine by advocating to state and federal government officials for the safety and well-being of the surgical patient and/or for the surgeon.
