The story behind the creation of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) program and its impact on general surgery practice and training are described in this article, which commemorates the program’s 10th anniversary.
This article analyzes how energy-based surgical devices have contributed to complications and mortality in the operating room and addresses how surgeons have been trained to use these devices. It further describes a curriculum developed by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons to help surgeons safely use these devices.
